adopt a pet today

DFW Humane Society aims to make our adoption process a positive and open experience for all of our potential adopters.

We also strive to ensure that our pets go to loving, lifelong homes.  In most cases, you can take the pet home with you the same day!​

To complete the adoption process, you will need to meet certain requirements:

  1. You must be at least 18 years of age.

  2. You will need to bring a government-issued photo ID showing your current address. If the address on your government-issued photo ID is outdated, you must provide a copy of a recent bill, such as a utility or phone bill, or a copy of a lease or insurance with your current address.

If you do not see the pet that you are looking for, they may have already been adopted. You can visit our Forever Homes page to see our recently adopted pets.

When you have found your perfect pet and spent some time with them here at the shelter, you will complete an adoption application for review by an adoption counselor.

  • Heartworm Test (if old enough)

  • Distemper/Parvo shot

  • Bordetella

  • General Deworm

  • Microchip & Enrollment

  • Free Exam at Vet within 10 days of adoption

  • Leash

  • FIV/FELV Test

  • General deworm

  • Microchip Enrollment
